Gov. Abbott and the rest of Texas should Texan-up and take responsibility for their own doing.1 Texas wanted to be green and quit relying on coal and other petroleum products for their energy. Well Texas, you got that for which you asked voted. Texas made a concerted effort to develop wind farms and solar power production and dumped the coal grid. They showed the rest of the world that they could convert to a green policy. But, why did they go so far as to not utilize the natural gas safety system to defrost the wind turbines and prevent such massive blackouts across the state?
Does Texas have windless days? Does Texas have cloudy days? Does Texas get freak storms similar to an ice age? Does Texas have a backup plan for windless, cloudy and cold days? Yes, yes, yes and yes. Oh, and the backup plan is rolling blackouts, frozen water pipes, suicide by exhaust fumes and freezing.
Our green, tree huger friends, and I use that term lightly, got their panties in a wad over plastic in land fills. Seems that the plastic doesn’t degrade fast enough, or at all, so we are poisoning the mother planet earth with the practice of filling up it’s surface with plastic. These are the same folks that insist we save mother earth by reducing pollution caused by petroleum produced energy by converting to wind farms. So, we build scads of gazillion wind turbines to produce “free energy” from the wind that’s going to blow every day anyway.
But Number One!
Those wind turbine blades are made of this highly indestructible fiberglass that has a defined lifespan (Meaning that it has to be replaced periodically.), is not recyclable, and will cost more to deconstruct it than to dispose of it (Meaning that it goes into a landfill.) And, Einstein, fiberglass is a plastic!2,3
But Number Two!
Wind turbines have been shown to increase the average temperature of the ground below them.4 We’re talking global warming that has been scientifically proven and measured, not the Al Gore type that is purely hypothetical and in dispute.
An old proverb states, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
