Ivermectin, a common antimalarial drug, has been fighting a battle of acceptance in this pandemic. Rumor has it that it is effective against COVID-19 in humans. But the drug is mainly sold as an anti-parasitic for horses in the US. The medical community has cautioned the public to not self treat with this cheap readily available drug, warning of the dosing risks.
But it seems that Merck, the biopharmaceutical giant, has now patented a sister drug, molnupivir, and is touting it’s efficacy in COVID-19 infections in humans.
