“So, how ya doing?”, I said as I entered the room.
“I hurt Doc. I hit myself in the leg with a sledge hammer,” he said. I presumed that he did this while working on something and it was an accident. But, I didn’t ask.
When I examined his leg, there was a large area of swelling, an abrasion and the purple discoloration of a big hematoma just below and to the outside of his right knee. It was obvious that there had been some recent trauma there.
“Well, I’ll get an x-ray of your leg and come back and let you know what it shows when it’s done,” I said.
When I went back in the room, I said, “Well, nothing is broken.”
“Then why does it hurt so much?” he asked.
“Probably because you hit it with a sledge hammer,” I said.
Sometimes, you just have to use logic to get your point across, whether it is needed or not.
