Boom!

It had been a stressful week. Potential threats from some pretty skanky characters. But, my wife was off (work) and we were parked in front of the TV eating dinner. It was cold outside and I had started a fire in the wood stove. All of a sudden,

Boom!

I’ve been around and used a lot of firearms in my life and what I heard was a .45 caliber pistol discharge! Angie hit the floor and I was up out of my recliner running to the bedroom turning off lights. I grabbed 2 weapons, a high intensity flashlight and headed for the porch.

We live in the country. Over the years, we’ve had occasions that a careless hunter would fire at a deer or something and not realize the trajectory of the bullet was in line with our house. But, it wasn’t hunting season and was after dark. So not a hunter’s stray bullet.

It, then, dawned on me that I hadn’t heard glass break. So, likely not someone shooting at us through a window.

The sound was as loud as if it was fired in our living room. But there was nobody, except me and the wife, present.

You see, when I start a fire, I put down tender. Usually crumpled up paper. Then I put in some cardboard on top of that. Like a pre-kindling. On top of that goes the thin dry sticks of wood, kindling, and last goes a few medium sized logs. Then I light the tender which lights the kindling which lights the logs.

Everyone feeling kinda Boy Scout / Girls Scout ish? Let me bust that bubble.

What you don’t do is set the butane BIC lighter on top of the stove, get distracted and forget it!

See, the plastic lighter never melted. The butane just heated up to it’s autoignition point of 761’ F. And well, kaboom. We confirmed this by sweeping up little bits of the lighter parts, finished dinner and watched a movie.

Neutering our Children

G.O.A.T.

I practiced as a Pediatric Emergency Physician for 37 years. Seeded deeply in my brain was the penultimate goal to ensure that all of my patients were safe. Safe from physical, emotional and sexual abuse. State laws vary, to some degree, but they all have strict laws on child safety. Teachers, law enforcement, nurses and doctors are required, by law, to report suspected mistreatment of children. Failure to do so could lead to criminal prosecution, loss of licenses, public humiliation and other degrading actions.

For example, it is illegal for a minor child to consent to sexual activity. A child is considered to be a minor at 16-18 years of age, depending on the state. Federal laws prevent taking a child across state lines with the intent to lower the age of consent from 18 to 16 years. Minors are not considered to have the knowledge, experience or emotional capacity to give consent to such serious experiences as sexual conduct.

But many “woke” people are now advocating transsexualism in our children. By this, they mean permanently altering the child’s body to attempt to change their gender. Permanently taking away a girls ability to have children and a boy’s ability to father children. Forever.

Anyone with even a remote exposure to children know that they are fickle. They jump on the wagon of fad and change their minds often. And, as is being revealed today by adults who underwent sex change surgery as a child and now regret that decision.

We, as a society, allow this same level of harm to be forced on to animals (dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs, etc.) under the guise of controlling that animals population and food production. Is that what we are doing with our children?

Once one reaches the age of 18, do what you want and take responsibility for those actions. It is impossible for an adult parent/guardian to take responsibility for harm done to a child. The harming adult may be made to pay for the harm done but the child has to live with that harm for the rest of their life.

Bottom line? All these people wanting to neuter our children should be jailed for child sex abuse.

The Geraldo effect – Absolutely Nothing!

G.O.A.T.

Absolutely NOTHING!

A fabulous R & B song from 1970 by Edwin Starr.1

But I digress, before I even start.

So on April 21, 1986, the then notably less infamous Geraldo Rivera arranged for CBS to record a live special on the opening of Al Capone’s hidden vault.2 It was amazing. Amazingly boring! Rivera speculated they would find tons of loot, cash, rare whiskeys and wines. The pre-opening was thick with drama and blabber. But alas, it only contained dust and cobwebs. Geraldo is now Fox News’ token liberal, still full of himself, absolutely nothing.

Now, along comes the FBI! These 30 agents are also full of themselves, absolutely nothing. Seems Christopher A. Wray, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, got a hold of some genuine intelligence (I’m doubtful) that led him to believe that Trump left office with a bunch of classified documents. And, that he bought a brand new safe to keep them in at his residence at Mar-a-Lago. So Wray‘s minions, 30 of them, assaulted the Trump residence to search for said documents. Oh, they were very thorough, even searching Melania’s underwear drawer for said documents.

They were so thorough, they brought a professional safe cracker. [I haven’t heard of a safe cracker since the last time I watched a Humphrey Bogart movie] So, when the professional was done and the safe’s doors were opened, they found

Absolutely NOTHING!

Proving Christopher Wray has no intelligence.

I was going to write something along the lines of finding Geraldo in the safe, but that would have been too much of a cheap shot.

Lewis Carroll and Madison

G.O.A.T.

I called you Maddy for a long time. Then, one night as I was going to credit you with a post, I asked you first and asked how you wanted to be described. You said that you preferred Madison. It dawned on me that you might not have liked the nick name, so I quit using it.

But I never explained why I had used the nick name, in the first place.

I was a disappointment to my mom for 2 reasons. I had dyslexia and couldn’t spell for the life of me and I couldn’t remember a person’s name 5 minutes after meeting them. Mom discovered the later when I was in the 4th grade and my teacher wanted to hold me back because she thought that I was retarded. Mom, being an elementary school teacher sat me down one day and had me read to her. She figured out what the problem was and went to war on my behalf with the school system. The school system wasn’t as “dyslexic” aware in the 1950’s as it is today. But with her fighting the system and Dad beating my but, I made it through school without being held back. Not necessarily with stellar performance, though.

I never overcame the name remembering thing, though. Somewhere along the line, I discovered using a relationship trick helped get me through college and medical school. It’s called associative learning.1

In pharmacology in medical school, we were studying belladona alkyloids, or anticholinergic toxicity. The signs of belladona overdose were presented in Lewis Carrol’s “The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland”3 by the little ditty/mnemonic, “red as a beet, dry as a bone, blind as a bat, mad as a hatter, hot as a hare, and full as a flask.” This, of course, refers to the symptoms of flushing, dry skin and mucous membranes, mydriasis with loss of accommodation, altered mental status, fever, and urinary retention, respectively.2

So, Madison became Maddy, mad as a hatter, to help me remember the name. Not as a derogatory reference to Madison’s mental status at all.

Sfar as I know…

G.O.A.T.

Sfar as I know…

Shooting another person other than in self defense is against the law.

Carrying a firearm onto school property is against the law.

Entering school property without a lawful purpose is against the law.

Explicitly and publicly stating that one is going to shoot and kill others (a threat) is against the law.

Driving a vehicle into a public right of way in a manner to cause an accident is against the law.

Shooting a relative (or any other person) with a firearm is against the law.

Being a psychopath with an intent to harm others is not against the law, but the law has an absolute obligation to protect everyone else from harm by said psychopath.

But hey, maybe another law would get a future psychopath’s attention and prevent this type of activity.1

Unless you are a stupid idiot, you know that a 9 mm round is not a high power round! There are many other rounds of much higher power, both in pistol and rifle platforms. The 9 mm round, in pistol format, is probably the most common caliber it the world. Almost every military and police unit in the world uses the 9 mm pistol. A Joe-Biden-Ban of the 9 mm round would emasculate (and yes, the femme fatales too) our entire USA police force. Sure, there are some 45s and 40s out there, but they are a distinct minority.

Let’s see, driving a vehicle over a pedestrian and her baby in a stroller? Maybe worth a few months in a juvenile summer camp.2

Being a bigot and shooting up a store full of people of color, a synagogue of Jews or a church of Christians? What’s that worth?

Rioting, pillaging, overt theft in times of civil unrest?

What do we outlaw in the above 3 situations? Cars, religion, race, civility?

How about if law enforcement does it’s job?3,4 Several LEOs were on scene within 3 minutes but the shooter was not neutralized for 70 minutes!

If you still think outlawing guns is the answer, you are a fucking5 idiot.
